XUV 700 Review | Therevviewer.com
XUV 700
Mahindra has been in hot pursuit to regain the lost skin in the game of compact SUVs and 7-seater SUVs. But last year they deployed their ace warrior, surely the best of what Mahindra has given us, THE XUV 700. It is a 4.7m long SUV with a cozy 7-seater cabin and a warm family welcoming atmosphere, Stellar looks with out of the checkbox features. Let’s dive in on how Mahindra’s star son has recently won so many hearts.
DESIGN & FEATURES
This is the part where Mahindra absolutely nailed it. The car looks beyond its character. Those double C – shaped LED DRLs look great gives it a nice impression. When seen from further afar it might converge as one from a particular line of sight. The Headlamps are bright and does a great job, in addition, it has cornering lights and booster headlamps which are first in class, The big piano black front grill with chrome lines gives the car a complete look and the macho stance. By this point, one will realize how long Mahindra has come from its predecessor the XUV 500. The arrow tail lamps are well-designed and go well with the cuts are curves of the car. The wheel arches are big but not overdone. This also sports the Mahindra Twin peaks logo.
On the inside, you find a very rich and classy-looking white seat with a Premium dashboard and white wood inserts. But the elephant in the room is the massive panoramic sunroof and the twin-connected dual 10.25-inch screen. The connected instrument cluster and the infotainment system set the ambiance of the car. The cluster itself is overkill with its sharp and crisp display, the infotainment system is easy and fast to operate. Although a physical volume button/ dial would have saved some trouble. It does get physical AC controls and othe

r toggle switches which are not cumbersome. Yes, there were a few features missing like apple car play which has been integrated via OTA. The electric seats do have the memory function. The sunroof going all the way to the rear seats brings in a lot of light and makes the cabin airy. The windows are big but the door panels do stick out of the window which is not my favorite. It also has the sony sound system which gives a premium touch. It gets the 2-zone climate control which does the job but a 3-zone climate control like the KIA carnival would have made amends.
RIDE
The Independent suspension
The Mahindra XUV 700 is the first car in the segment to have independent suspension which gives a butter-smooth ride. Even its German rivals which have double the price miss out on independent suspension. Expansion joints do not disrupt your comfy ride and the sound insulation levels are commendable. The 2.0 petrol engine produces 197 Bhp of power and an insane 380NM of torque which not only does justice to Mahindra’s new aim for a sports utility vehicle dominance but also thrashes its nearest dated competitor the 2.8-liter Toyota Innova Crysta and even the gangsta SUV the Toyota Fortuner.
The diesel produces 182 bhp of power and 450 nm of torque on the other hand which is more biased towards linear lower delivery and refinement. It is Punchy enough and gets the job done.About the gearboxes, the manual is definitely the best in any car, but the auto gearbox is too good to ignore. It is sloppy and slow in normal or comfort modes of riding, and the absence of paddle shifters can be felt.
Adaptive Cruise Control Now with its razor-sharp looks and overloaded comfort,

the XUV 700 also brings ADAS. ADAS is Advanced Driver Assistance System. This includes adaptive cruise control, Lane keep assist, Driver drowsiness detection, Auto headlamps where it will dim its high beam on on-coming traffic. IT has 7 airbags with knee airbags, curtain airbags for all the rows, and also a 5-star global NCAP rating.
Practicality
Now if You have a joint family or a big family, this car is the one for you. It has got all the bells and ribbons one might possibly ask for this price point. Even if you are a city user, with not very frequent weekend getaways, this 4.7m car will be just like a long sedan. Even though taking u-turns in tight spots might need a redo and parking spaces might cause you some trouble, but the luxury and stance are worth the hit. Now
Arrow tail lights
the mileage on this car in the city should bring to around 10-11 km/l, and the highway should do you about 12-13 km/l in the petrol and 15-16 in city and 16-17 on the highways for the diesel. If you are using the diesel, the recommendation is for the Automatic gearbox because it suits its comforting and linear character. If you are choosing the petrol, my recommendation would be the manual to unleash its horses.
Pricing
Mahindra has NAILED the pricing of this beast. It has been priced from 13.45 – 24.95 Lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). This pricing overlaps well with the Compact SUV line of the Seltos, Creta, Taigun, Kushaq and also the sedans like the City, Virtus etc. But my recommendation stands for the XUV as you get more for what you pay. The Compact SUVs can go all the way up to 18 lakhs which will reel you a decent variant of the XUV700. If you’re a small family and do not need 4.7m of unusable metal, a Compact SUV like the Creta/ Seltos with similar comfort would make better sense.
Final Verdict
This car is overkill over its present competitors. It has more comfort, more luxury, more features, more power, better design and everything else to sideline its nearest competitors the Innova Crysta and a few more. Few cost cuttings have been done on the lower trims but be generous to Mahindra and they will reward your generosity. The Top trims ooze luxury and comfort. Convenience is not a problem, definitely VFM and hence I strongly recommend this car with respect to the use and rate this a solid 8/10.
