VW Virtus GT plus review | TheRevviewer.com

Volkswagen is one of the only German car companies in India in the affordable range. VW was the first middle class car company to teach the Japanese Ride, build quality and safety. While the Japanese are all about reliability and mileage, the Germans are all about performance and premium status (Keep the Koreans out of it). But In the early 2010s Indians couldn’t afford that premium leading to a big down fall in the sales of the Germans. 2022 was the deciding year if VW was to continue its sales in India, for which they launched two of their best products ever, The Taigun and The Virtus. The Virtus is the most handsome and fast sedan you can purchase in this market. It soon became the dream sedan of many including me. In this article I am going to discus on how good the VW is and if you should consider it.

Powertrain

The Virtus has two engines, A 1.0 engine which is just okay. But im all about the beast it has to offer, the 1.5 Turbo engine unleashing 150hps and 250 Nm of torque in just under 3500 rpm. This engine is an absolute monster. With pinning acceleration this car can do 0-100 in under 9 seconds. With all that monstrosity, It returns a decent mileage thanks to its cylinder deactivation technology. Now the car is lovely to drive, the turbo lag is well contained and the car pulls. It doesn’t have that Diesel Turbo pull but a linear surge in power. I drove the Automatic and the DCT was quick enough. The issue is that this is the same DCT from the Skoda Octavia which is infamous for its reliability. Just get the manual, Save money.

Dynamics

Now this car has a profile that I crave for. Its German so it sits really well on the highway with triple digits. This car has a super stiff chassis. Pair with a well calibrated steering (not like the one on rapid) this car will take corners like a racecar. It is a FWD so it has an understeer nature but thanks to its electronic diff lock, it reels you to the apex of the corner and you clearly cannot expect anything more than this for 16 lakhs. For low-speed pothole riding its just average. It doesn’t crash into potholes but doesn’t glide on them either. But for the highway show it gives, id forget all of it.

Features

This car has a slue of features. Starting from the exterior it sports all LED headlamps All LED tail lamps which are ever smoked, Lovely! The Virtus has a black smoked alloy wheel and strong road presence. Now Coming to the interior it has a 10 inch touch screen display which supports wireless apple car play and android auto. It gets an 8-speaker set up with ambient lighting in places I cannot imagine. It gets front ventilated seats and leather bolstery. Now I’m going to be honest I hate the plastic red inserts in the dashboard. Its just too big and too into the face. I Personally find the Slavia’s Interior design more subtle and appealing.  But what I love to see is the Virtual Pilot display. Makes me feel like maverick in top gun.

Build

Now this Car is over-engineered. And I kid you not, comparing to the countries Suzuki’s and Hyundai’s this car is built like a tank. 5 star in Passenger and child safety rating. The pain is good the plastics are good to touch and feel. The seats feel premium beyond its price tag. Its German so build quality is the best you can find here. The Maintainence isn’t too bad with 7-8K yearly. It has the biggest boot standing at 521 liters and a decent 45 liter fuel capacity.

Final verdict
Lets face the truth, EVs are coming and are in the final era of ICE cars. So if you want your final ICE car which is fun to drive before we transition into hybrids, I strongly suggest this car over any other car in this segment. If you want a SUV go for the Kushaq/Taigun. If it’s a Sedan, it has to be the Virtus. Priced at 20lakhs OTR, this car will definitely make you fall in love with German engineering and will not make you regret its purchase.
