Reasons Why Going Electric isn’t the future | TheRevviewer.com

The world is edging towards its end. We have global warming, climate change and a lot of damage to the nature being done on a daily basis. What is the reason you ask? I can simply say pollution, Is it though? Many liberty media makes it their sole headline and come hard and fast at Cars and bikes for being the reason of global warming, Is that true? Or its just a business propaganda, Today we shall have a deep dive into the Business POVs and the truth is EV is the way to go.

Source Of Energy

In Most countries, Their source of Energy is Thermal Power plants. Thermal plants obviously burn coal and generate electricity. If we stress more on EVs and its usage, We are simply asking these plants to generate more electricity. But these plants dont have strong pollution norms like the Cars have. They release more pollutants resulting in contributing more pollution. Many might argue that Solar and other renewable sources of energy will overtake those plants in energy production numbers, But countries putting unnecessary stress on companies but giving deadlines to convert into electric like 2030, It is impossible to that we get there without energy shortage.

Infrastructure

We need a more stronger energy grid system which is more reliable and has a well-connected charging infrastructure. Though these numbers are increasing exponentially in India, We have a long way to go. A proper standard and rates should be mandated along with a frequent maintenance on these chargers. Indian railway system is now almost converting itself to electric but irradicating their diesel passenger locomotives. We need a similar strong network for EVs.

Range

Now this I personally believe will stop a lot of buyer right away from considering EVs. With Meer range of 300 Kms, It is impossible for people to travel long. Only the Mercedes EQS is giving almost 800 KMs range but it costs almost 2 CR OTR. But I believe technology will grow and ranges will tumble. Surely the current era is not the right time for EV to flourish.

Cost

EVs might not be very complex machines in comparison with the ICEs. But their parts are difficult to build and source. The Nexon EV is a 16Lakh car, Its battery replacement costs 4 lakh. An avg battery cycle is of 4-5 Years, and then it must be replaced. So, one must already pay a 4 lakhs premium over their ICE car for the Nexon EV plus another 8 lakhs (Considering you use the car for 8 years) which is simply not justifiable.
Lets say you use the Nexon and Nexon EV for 80K kms for 8 years. The ICE Nexon is of 12 lakhs and EV is of 16 lakhs. Considering 50k as maintenance for the ICE and 8 lakhs for EV, and Per KM cost for ICE as 5.6 and For EV as 1, the total running cost for ICE is 5 lakhs and for the EV is a whooping 8.8 Lakhs. Which simply states, EV is not cheap. Yes, the fuel bill for ICE was 4.5 lakhs and the EV was just a mere 90K, But the parts cost really eats away the big bulge, not to mention the Price difference between the two cars is 4Lakhs. IN no way is an EV economical.

Final Verdict

EVs are nothing but a scapegoat for the government to save themselves from environmentalists. Yes, EVs makes sense In places like EV Busses, EV Scooters for city runs etc. But other than that, I find no purpose of it. Unless EV battery technology grows, gets cheaper and more reliable along with a stronger connectivity of charging stations, we should not jump into the EV era. I personally believe Hybrids are the right way for the future and not a full-grown EV.
